Governors

Governors

Horsmonden School has a diverse group of governors who are all actively involved in the school and passionate about providing the best education for our children.

The role of the governors is not to manage the school, but to set the strategic direction, ensure money is spent wisely and act as a support and a challenge to the headteacher and the leadership team.

Officially we have 12 governors, including two elected parents, the headteacher and a staff governor. Other governors are co-opted from the community, and as you can see, we have a number of current and former parents of Horsmonden children as governors.

We have been able to recruit governors with the specific skills that the governing body needs, so we are lucky to have governors with skills in areas such as education, finance, human resources, safeguarding, facilities and project management.

The full governing body meets six times a year and pairs of governors regularly visit the school to monitor specific areas that are priorities of our School Improvement Plan. The headteacher and chair of governors also meet on a weekly basis to assess the progress of the school and any current issues. All the governors undergo regular training to keep up to date with developments including the national curriculum, safeguarding, performance management and the Ofsted requirements.

Here is a brief introduction to our governors. You’ll see many of the governors around the school on a regular basis, so do feel free to say hello and we’re always keen to hear your thoughts and comments.

Tracy Thomas
(Head Teacher)

Governor
Term of Office end date:
N/A

"I have been Headteacher of Horsmonden Primary School since September 2014. I started teaching in 2003, having spent sixteen years as a chemist in the agrochemical industry. Not surprisingly, perhaps, my favourite subject is science! In my previous schools I was the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). I feel passionately that all children should be given the same chances to succeed in education in preparation for a fulfilling future.

As a mum of three, I realise how important the partnership between school and parents is and I try hard to facilitate this. I welcome visits to the school and appreciate feedback – whether positive or constructive!"
